Percent-encode text for URLs and query strings, or decode %20-style URLs back to text.
Encoded
About this tool
URL encoding (percent-encoding) replaces characters that are not allowed in URLs — such as spaces, &, ? and non-English letters — with %XX codes. Use this tool to safely put text into query strings, or to make encoded URLs readable again.
How to use
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- For encoding, pick “Value / parameter” to encode a single value, or “Whole URL” to keep the URL structure (: / ? & =) intact.
- Paste your text — the result appears instantly. Copy or download it.
FAQ
Which encoding mode should I use?
“Value / parameter” (like encodeURIComponent) encodes everything that has a special meaning in URLs, which is right for query string values. “Whole URL” (like encodeURI) leaves characters such as : / ? & and = alone so a complete URL still works.
Should spaces be %20 or +?
Both are common. %20 is the standard for URLs; + is used by HTML forms (application/x-www-form-urlencoded). Tick “+ for spaces” if your system expects +.
What does Swap do?
It moves the result into the input box and switches between Encode and Decode, so you can check a round trip in one click.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser, so your data never leaves your device.
