About this tool

A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of some data: the same input always gives the same hash, and even a one-letter change gives a completely different one. This generator calculates SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of your text at the same time, using your browser’s built-in Web Crypto API. Use it to create checksums, compare values or check API signatures.

How to use

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. All four hashes update instantly.
  3. Choose lowercase hex, UPPERCASE hex or Base64 output, then copy the hash you need.

FAQ

Which hash should I use?

Use SHA-256 for most purposes. SHA-1 is considered weak against deliberate attacks and should only be used for compatibility with older systems.

Is MD5 supported?

Not on this page. Browsers do not include MD5 in their built-in crypto because it is insecure. SHA-256 is the recommended replacement.

Can a hash be reversed to get the text back?

No. Hashes are one-way. However, short or common inputs can be guessed by trying many values, so never use a plain fast hash to store passwords.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Hashes are calculated in your browser, and your text never leaves your device.
