Escape special characters as HTML entities (< & ") or decode entities back to text.
Encoded
About this tool
HTML entities let you show characters like <, > and & as text instead of having the browser treat them as HTML. This tool escapes text into entities — useful for showing code on a web page or preventing broken markup — and decodes named (©), decimal (©) and hex (©) entities back into characters.
How to use
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Paste your text or HTML — the result appears instantly.
- Optionally encode every non-ASCII character (é, ₹, emoji) as a numeric entity.
FAQ
Which characters are encoded?
The five characters with special meaning in HTML: & < > " and '. Tick the option to also encode every non-ASCII character.
Does decoding remove HTML tags?
No. Only entities are decoded; tags are left as they are. Use the HTML to Text Converter to strip tags.
What does Swap do?
It moves the result into the input box and switches between Encode and Decode, so you can check a round trip in one click.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser, so your data never leaves your device.
