About this tool
This internet speed test measures your download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter against the nearest server on Cloudflare’s global network, which has locations across India and the world. Choose the Quick test to check your connection in a few seconds while using little data — ideal on mobile data — or the Full test for the most accurate result on fast broadband and fibre.
How to use
- Choose Quick test (a few seconds, at most about 25 MB) or Full test (about 20–30 seconds, most accurate).
- Press Start test and keep the page open. Close other downloads and video for a fair result.
- Read your download and upload speed in Mbps, your ping and jitter, and how much data the test used. Your last five results are kept in this browser.
FAQ
What is the difference between the Quick and Full test?
Both download and upload test files of growing size and stop once a file takes long enough to measure. The Quick test stops sooner and never uses files bigger than 5 MB, so it needs only a few MB on mobile data and at most about 25 MB on any connection. The Full test uses the same steps as speed.cloudflare.com and can use 100–300 MB on fast connections. For speeds above about 200 Mbps, the Full test is more accurate.
Why does a speed test use so much data?
Speed is measured by actually moving data. The faster your connection, the more data moves in the same few seconds — at 100 Mbps, one second is about 12.5 MB. That is why the Quick test limits the size of its test files.
What are ping and jitter?
Ping (latency) is how long a tiny message takes to reach the server and come back, in milliseconds — lower is better for video calls and online games. Jitter is how much the ping changes from one message to the next; low jitter means a steady connection.
What is a good internet speed?
As a rough guide: 5 Mbps for HD video on one device, 25 Mbps for 4K streaming, and 50–100 Mbps or more for a home with several people streaming, gaming and working at the same time. For video calls, upload speed of 3 Mbps or more and ping under 100 ms work well.
Why is my result lower than my plan speed?
Wi-Fi distance and walls, other devices using the connection, a busy network in the evening, or an old router can all reduce speed. For the truest result, test on a cable (Ethernet) connection with nothing else downloading.
Where does my data go?
The test runs in your browser and exchanges test data with Cloudflare’s nearest server, so Cloudflare can see your IP address, like any website you visit. We do not send your results to Cloudflare’s statistics service, and your recent results are saved only in your browser.
