About this tool

This tool pings Cloudflare’s nearest server once a second and draws every reply as a bar, so you can see at a glance whether your internet is steady, laggy or dropping out — like running ping in a terminal, but easier to read. It shows your average ping, best and worst ping, jitter and lost pings, gives a stability verdict, lists every drop with how long it lasted, and can alert you with a notification and a beep when the connection goes down and when it comes back.

How to use

  1. Choose how long to run the test, or “Until I stop” to keep watching.
  2. Tick “Alert me if the connection drops” if you want a notification and a beep (your browser asks for permission once).
  3. Press Start test. Green bars are good, amber and red mean slow replies, and a full-height red bar is a lost ping. You can switch to other tabs — keep this one open.

FAQ

Is this the same as ping in my terminal?

Nearly. Browsers are not allowed to send real ping (ICMP) packets, so each ping here is a tiny web request to Cloudflare’s nearest server. The times are usually a few milliseconds higher than terminal ping, but the pattern — steady, spiky or dropping — is the same.

What counts as a lost ping and a drop?

A ping is lost when no reply arrives within 2 seconds or the request fails. Three lost pings in a row count as a drop: the tool records when it started and how long it lasted, and alerts you if you turned alerts on.

How do the alerts work?

When you tick the alert option, your browser asks once for permission to show notifications. If the connection drops you get a notification and a beep, and the tab title changes to “Connection lost”; you get another notification when it comes back. Notifications work in desktop browsers; on phones the beep and tab title still work while the page is open.

Can I use other tabs while it runs?

Yes. The pings run in a background worker so they continue while you use other tabs or apps. Keep this tab open, and keep your computer awake — on phones, the test pauses when the screen locks.

What is a good ping and jitter?

Under 50 ms ping is excellent, under 100 ms is good for video calls and most games, and above 150–200 ms you may notice lag. Jitter (how much the ping changes) under 10 ms is very steady; above 30 ms, calls can stutter.

How much data does it use?

Very little — each ping is about 1 KB, so roughly 3–4 MB per hour. A single speed test can use more than that in one second.
