Which spaces are removed?
Runs of spaces and tabs become one space, and spaces at the start and end of each line are removed. Invisible non-breaking spaces (common in text copied from websites) are treated as spaces too.
Can I keep the indentation at the start of lines?
Yes. Untick "Trim spaces at line start and end" — the line breaks and indentation are then kept.
