About this tool

This tool sorts the lines of any list: A to Z, Z to A, shortest or longest first, reversed or shuffled into random order. It uses natural sorting, so "item 2" comes before "item 10", and accented letters such as É sort next to E. Remove empty lines and duplicates in the same step.

How to use

  1. Paste your list into the Input box, one item per line.
  2. Choose the order, and tick the clean-up options you need.
  3. The sorted list appears instantly. Copy or download it.

FAQ

Why does "item 10" come after "item 9"?

The tool uses natural sorting, which compares numbers by their value instead of digit by digit. A plain computer sort would put "item 10" before "item 9".

What does "Ignore case" change?

With it on, "apple" and "Apple" are sorted together as the same word. With it off, uppercase comes before lowercase when two words are otherwise the same.

How random is the shuffle?

It uses the Fisher–Yates shuffle with your browser’s secure random number generator, so every order is equally likely. Press "Shuffle again" for a new order.
